“Keeping students engaged is critical to a successful learning experience, and we found that the behaviors gamification promotes could easily enhance our curriculum by encouraging more quality participation”
Dr. David DeHavenDean of the School of Information Technology, Kaplan University
Kaplan University is a different school of thought for higher education. It provides a practical, student-centered education that prepares them for careers in the fastest-growing industries. Kaplan University serves over 49,000 online and campus-based students. As Kaplan University students have many non-academic obligations, simply providing course materials and instruction is not always enough to guarantee involved learning.
How We Did It
Kaplan University leveraged The Behavior Platform by Badgeville to power a gamification program to influence key learning behaviors. Game Mechanics kept students coming back, Reputation Mechanics motivated individuals to choose to complete more challenging content, while Social Mechanics promoted peer and faculty interaction.
By driving additional engagement, Kaplan University’s School of IT has taken their learning experience to the next level, boosting motivation, participation, and academic success. This motivates additional course signups and ensures students represent their alma mater well in future endeavors.
