eCommerce Site Embeds Gamification into their Business -- Increases Conversions by 18%

Business Challenge
sneakpeeq is a new kind of e-commerce site that’s redefining the way people shop and discover emerging brands and products. The San Francisco-based social shopping startup, launched in May 2011, makes it easy and fun for customers to connect with millions of up-and-coming style, home, and living brands. It delivers these products on elegantly designed pages for each retailer, where users can browse items prior viewing the pricetag ("peeqing"), like a real-life shopping experience.

However, sneakpeeq faced a challenge common to many retailers today – with the current trend of daily deal sites and instant search today, customers flee faster than ever before to competitor websites. sneakpeeq wanted a way to attract loyal customers that would stay engaged with their brand for the long term.

Business Solution
sneakpeeq saw gamification as core to their e-retail strategy from the beginning of creating the company, however were limited by resources to build gamification technology to deploy their full vision. The company's founding team soon realized that it would be necessary to partner with an outside gamification vendor to create the interactive shopping experience they had hoped to build. sneakpeeq executives selected Badgeville to power smart gamification across their online stores, enabling real-time rewards for user behaviors, leaderboards for each individual designer, and a natively gamified user experience.

“The more peeqs and loves customers do throughout the day, the more engaged they are on new products. With that level of engagement, we’ve found they have a much higher likelihood not only to buy, but to frequently return and engage with other sneakpeeq stores.
--Neil Gandhi, Senior Software Engineer, sneakpeeq

As users visit the different stores on sneakpeeq, there are three critical behaviors they can perform to show their affinity for different products:

SHARE - Share a product on Facebook or Twitter

PEEQ - When a user visits a product page, he or she can “peeq” to see a special discounted price and the product's full retail price
LOVE - A love enables sneakpeeq users to curate their favorite products and showcase them on their user profiles.

As users share, peeq and love, they earn points that get visualized on Badgeville-powered Leaderboards. At the end of every shopping day, top users are rewarded with special rewards, such as site credit that can be redeemed at any sneakpeeq store.

Integration with Facebook Open Graph
While sneakpeeq focuses on engaging customers by driving and rewarding behaviors on the site, it also wanted to pull in more traffic and engagement from users on Facebook. Integrating Badgeville with Facebook’s Open Graph, sneakpeeq sends key behaviors such as peeqs -- and associated rewards that users unlock -- into Facebook’s News Feed. There, a user’s friends can click on the product they peeqed at and begin engaging with relevant products, stores and boutiques on sneakpeeq as well.

Business Results
Since launching Badgeville, sneakpeeq has driven millions of more peeqs. They've found that as users become more engaged, they’re more likely to buy products. See more of their amazing results below.
